UMW Men's Tennis Competes at ITA Regional

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team competed in the ITA South/Southeast Regional Tournament this weekend at UMW.

In the championship singles flight, UMW's Sam Wichlin advanced to the quarterfinals, topping Aaron Ellison, 6-4, 6-2 in the first round before downing Jonathan Gaffney, 6-1, 7-6, in the second round. Wichlin topped Jeremy Schwartz, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2 in the round of 16 before falling to Gianandrea Heyer, 7-6, 6-3, in the quarters. Riley Baver, Brian Hope, and Kevin Aquino also won first round matches for the Eagles.

In the championship doubles flight, the Eagles saw three teams win in the round of 32, with Brian Hope and Kaz Murata, Will Apperson and Eric Coltabiano, and and Alex Blakhin and Sam Wichlin all advancing. Unfortunately for the Eagles, all three duos fell in the second round.

The championship flights will conclude at UMW on Monday.
