Murata Named CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year; Leads Six Eagles on All-CAC Teams
YORK, Pa. - University of Mary Washington senior Kaz Murata (Nashville, Tenn./Saddlebrook Prep) gained his third-straight all-conference award, helped lead the Eagles to their 12th-straight team championship and was named the 2011 CAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year by the conference coaches.

Murata is a four-time first-team All-CAC doubles choice who was a first-team all-star singles player in 2010 and a second-team singles pick in 2009. One of seven members of the UMW program named to the 2011 All-CAC squad, Murata is the eighth Eagle to be named CAC Player of the Year (three have been multiple winners). It’s the sixth-straight year, and the 12th time since 1998, that a UMW player was named the CAC Player of the Year.

Mary Washington’s Todd Helbling was tabbed by his peers as the CAC Coach of the Year for the third-straight year and the eighth time in the last 10 years. He has won the award more than any other men’s tennis coach in CAC history.

Murata was joined on the 2011 All-CAC first-team singles squad by sophomores Will Apperson (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) and Sam Wichlin (Ellicott City, Md./Ellicott City). Apperson, who paired with junior Andrew Frisk (Seal Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) to earn their second-straight All-CAC doubles nod, was a first-team singles player and CAC Rookie of the Year in 2010. Wichlin, the 2010 CAC Player of the Year, is a repeat choice as a first-team singles all-star.

Junior Riley Baver (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) gained his third-straight second-team All-CAC singles award and paired with Murata for his first doubles all-star nod. Freshman teammate Alex Blahkin (Moscow, Russia/Saddlebrook Prep) also earned second-team singles recognition for the Eagles.
