UMW's Carpenter, Whitesell Named CAC Swimmers of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards after the start of January meets. Mary Washington senior Noah Carpenter earned CAC Men's Swimmer of the Week accolades, while UMW senior Erin Whitesell claimed CAC Women's Swimmer of the Week honors. Both individuals swept the same honors back on November 18, 2019.


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Noah Carpenter - Mary Washington

Mary Washington senior Noah Carpenter helped Mary Washington to a 137-106 win at Salisbury on Saturday, breaking two pool records on the day. Hebroke the mark in the 200 meter IM at 2:13.91, and was the anchor leg of the 400 meter free relay with Austin Farrar, Matthew Scott, and Kolin Hoffman, at 3:38.22. Carpenter also won the 800 freestyle at 8:51.60, as well as the 100 backstroke at 1:02.13.


WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Erin Whitesell - Mary Washington

Mary Washington senior Erin Whitesell led Mary Washington to a 139-109 victory over Salisbury on Saturday, breaking one pool record individually and another on a relay. The Eagles' one senior teamed with Carley Vaughn, Mary Zagrobelny and Grace Gartman for a Salisbury pool record in the 400 meter medley relay, with a time of 4:32.53, and then broke the pool mark in the 500 meter butterfly at 30.35. Whitesell also won the 100 butterfly at 1:06.39.

LEAGUE NOTES

Against Mary Washington, Salisbury senior Angela Barazanti earned two first-place finishes, one in the 200-meter IM (2:47.95) and the other in the 200-meter free (5:09.85). She also earned 4th in the 800-meter free (10:41.80). In the 400m medley, Barazanti helped the squad finish 4th with an overall time of 5:04.25. Against McDaniel, Barazanti earned two-second place finishes in the 800-meter free (10:31.69) and 400-meter free (5:07.51). She also helped pace the 400m free relay team to a second-place finish for an overall time of 4:35.59...In the meet against McDaniel last Sunday, Richie Baker earned two first-place golds in the 200-meter free (2:04.47), and PR'd in the 100-meter back (1:02.59). Baker also helped the 400 medley relay team to a first-place finish (Overall time- 4:31.52; Baker's time- 1:03.99 ). Against Mary Washington, Baker earned another two first-place finishes in the 100-meter fly (1:00.01), 200-meter IM (2:21.18). Again, he helped the 400-meter relay team to another 1st place finish (Overall time- 4:05.78).
