UMW Swimmers Gain Success in Thursday Prelims at NCAA Championships

Thursday prelims at the NCAA Championships provided the Eagles with plenty of racing opportunities and saw some firsts in program history. The morning kicked off with the women's 200 freestyle relay where Katie Fago, Steph Hallock, Hannah Hagy and Amber Kerico combined for a 1:37.14 which was good enough for an 18th place finish overall. Kerico then took to the water solo in the 100 butterfly where she swam to a 57.15 and a 21st place finish, .4 faster and four spots higher than her finish at the 2012 championships.

The men also had individual swims, with both Alex Anderson (400 IM) and Nick Eckhoff (200 free) swimming in their qualifying events. Anderson had a stellar morning swim, breaking his own school and CAC record by over 2 seconds, as he touched in 3:53.73. That time was good enough for second seed for finals and a full 7 seconds faster than he was in the morning at last years championships. Eckhoff was right on his seed time, finishing in 140.19 and in 24th place.

The 400 medley relays were the final event of the morning and saw the women (Fago, Hagy, Kerico, Hallock) finish in 3:58.12 and 22nd in the country. The men's team (Yelmgren, Slattery, Anderson, Eckhoff) touched in 3:22.59 which puts them 11th heading into the evenings finals.
Watch the Eagles tonight with finals starting at 7pm est.
