The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams are both on the doorstep of another conference title after day three morning preliminaries at the Capital Athletic Conference championships.
The women will have six of the eight finalists in the 200 yard backstroke, as Robin Brazier, Lindsay Ancellotti, Catherine Perrin, and Katie Fago gained the top four seed times. Thre Eagle men will have four finalists in the 200 back, led by Nick Eckhoff and Michael Yelmgren, who are seeded 1-2.
Stephanie Hallock and Tara Banks gained the top two seeds as UMW will have three finalists in the 100 yard freestyle. The Eagles will have five finalists in the men's 100 freestyle.
Junior Amber Kerico gained the top seed in the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:18.07, an automatic qualifying time to the NCAA Championships, leading four Eagle swimmers in the finals. Senior Peter Slattery gained the top seed in the men's race with a time of 2:08.04.
Abby Cox, Allison Martin, and Elizabeth Lewan all finished in the top five in the prelims for the 200 yard butterfly, and the men saw Alex Anderson cut five seconds from his seed time in taking the top seed at 1:50.29, yet another NCAA automatic qualifying time. He'll be joined by Sean Mayer, Tom Rinaldi, and Vince Dunn in the finals tonight.
The finals begin at 6:00 p.m. tonight.
