The nationally-ranked University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams closed the dual meet season with a sweep of Gettysburg College on Saturday. The men won by a score of 187-75, and the women were victorious, 177-85.

The men were led by wins in the 200 yard medley relay (1:38.54) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:17.84) and double winners Stephen Clendenin (Ashburn, Va., Home Schooled) in the 1000 freestyle (10:19.45) and the 200 IM (1:58.53), Nick Eckhoff (Williamsburg, Va., Jamestown) in the 200 backstroke (1:57.91) and the 100 backstroke (54.86), and Billy Norfolk (Fairfax, Va., Chantilly) in the 200 butterfly (1:58.79) and the 100 fly (52.75). Other winners included Austin Clark (Springfield, Va., Texas Permian Basin) in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.85), Brian O'Donnell (Scotch Plains, N.J., Union Catholic) in the 50 freestyle (22.36), Peter Slattery (Annandale, Va., Woodson) in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.83), and Brad Dunn (Williamsburg, Va., Bruton) in the 500 freestyle (4:55.39).

The Eagle women saw wins from the 200 medley relay (1:52.40) and the 400 free relay (3:43.76), multiple winners Nina Sawyer (Warrenton, Va. , Liberty) in the 100 butterfly (59.80), the 200 fly (2:13.98), and the 200 IM (2:14.40), Sarah Crockett (Toano, Va., Lafayette) in the 200 backstroke (2:14.79), the 200 freestyle (1:57.18), and the 500 freestyle (5:24.19), Cameron Figuers (Cary, N.C., Cardinal Gibbons) in the 1000 freestyle (10:54.49) and the 200 breaststroke (2:29.97); and Adriana Lesiuk (Bensalem, Pa., Nazareth ) in the 50 yard freestyle (25.05) and the 100 freestyle (54.86). Other winners included Megan DeSmit (Bridgewater, Va. , Turner Ashby) in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.11) and Kelly Scott (Queenstown, Md., Kent Island ) in the 100 backstroke (1:03.35).

The Eagles will be idle until the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference championships hosted by St. mary's College on February 12-14. The Eagle women will look for their 20th straight CAC crown, while the men look for title \#16.
