Five UMW Men's Soccer Players Named to USC All-Region VI Team

After a season as one of the nation's top men's soccer programs, the Mary Washington men's soccer team had five members named to the Division III United Soccer Coaches All-Region VI teams.

Senior Josh Kirkland (forward), junior Carter Berg (forward), and senior Gabe Francesconi (midfielder) were named to the All-Region VI First Team, while senior Nathan Terrell (backline) and junior Freddy Rogers (keeper) were named second and third teams, respectively.

Kirkland was the Coast-to-Coast Conference's Offensive Player of the Year for each of the past three seasons as he capped off one of the more legendary careers the men's soccer program has seen -- as he was named an All-Region Player for the third-straight year. Kirkland led the Eagles in goals (15) and points (38) and netted a career-high eight assists in the Eagles Sweet 16 run.

Berg, meanwhile, was named to the First Team for the first time in his career after he was named a second-teamer last season. In 2023, Berg followed closely behind Kirkland with a career-high in goals (13) and points (36), and added a team-high (and personal best) 10 assists.

Francesconi, too, was also named to the All-Region team for the first time in his career after he missed the 2022 season with an injury. After coming in as a sub for the Eagles' first two games of the season, Francesconi started each of the next 20 and quickly returned to his 2021 form. For the season, he netted career-highs in goals (four) and assists (seven).

Terrell led the Eagles' backline as a senior in 2023 -- a defense that allowed under a goal per match (0.72). Terrell played in a career-high 22 games and was named to the Coast-to-Coast Conference's First Team as he helped lead the Eagles to 10 shutouts.

Rogers, a transfer, fit right in at keeper for the Eagles in 2023 as he logged nearly 2,000 minutes in goal and started all 22 games for the Eagles. As a junior, Rogers allowed less than a goal-per-match (0.75), while recording 75 saves.
