No. 2 Mary Washington Men's Soccer to Host Sectional Rounds of the NCAA Tournament

The Mary Washington men's soccer team will be dancing at home this fall in the 2023 NCAA men's soccer championship.

After winning the Coast-to-Coast Conference championshiplast weekend in Santa Cruz, Ca., the Eagles gained wins in the first two rounds at home this weekend. Mary Washington (18-1-2) will host a four-team sectional and play Washington College in the tournament third round. The winner faces either Montclair State University or Connecticut College on Sunday.

The Eagles will play Washington College at 11 a.m. on Saturday, while Montclair St. and Connecticut College will play at 1:30 p.m. The national quarterfinal game on Sunday will start at 1 p.m.

The Eagles boast one of the strongest offenses in the nation with Josh Kirkland (15 goals) and Carter Berg (13 goals and 10 assists) up front. The two have Gabe Francesconi (four) by their side. In net, Freddy Rogers has held strong throughout the season, recording 74 total saves and has allowed just 0.74 goals-per-game.

The tournament consists of a classic 64-team field, with all tournament games leading up to the national semifinals will be played on the campuses of the competing institutions. Four sites will host four teams for sectional round competition on Nov. 17 and 18 or 18 and 19. 

Winners of the four sectionals will advance to the national semifinals, which take place on Dec. 1 at Kerr Soccer Stadium in Salem, Va., with Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the City of Salem serving as hosts. The national championship game will be played on Dec. 3.
