The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the ninth week of the 2023 men's soccer season. Mary Washington's Josh Kirkland claimed C2C Offensive Player of the Week honors, while the Eagles' Freddy Rogers earned C2C Defensive Player of the Week distinction.
Kirkland recorded a goal and an assist in No. 2 Mary Washington's Saturday's 2-0 victory over Christopher Newport. With Kirkland's goal, he became at least the fourth member in UMW men's soccer's history to record 100 career points. His score netted the Eagles' game-winner and his feed on UMW's second goal put Saturday's game out of reach for CNU. He recorded four total shots on Saturday -- three of which were on goal.
In Wednesday's 1-0 win over Catholic, Kirkland kept up the Eagles' offensive pressure with two more shots.
In Freddy Rogers' two starts last week, he led No. 2 Mary Washington men's soccer to a 2-0 record, recording shutouts in both victories. The Eagles took down Catholic 1-0 on Wednesday and then Christopher Newport 2-0 on Saturday. In the Catholic win, Rogers recorded two saves. Then followed that up on Saturday with seven saves against the powerful CNU offense. He took part in the Eagles' ninth shutout victory this fall.
