No. 2 UMW Men's Soccer Dominates Salisbury, 5-0

No. 2 Mary Washington men's soccer's well-oiled scoring machine took a little longer than usual to start, but once it did, the Eagles couldn't stop scoring.

They scored five goals -- all coming in the second half -- which started with Julian Schmugge's goal and ended with Alex Keeton's score in the final minute before the clock ran out in their 5-0 victory over Salisbury on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles (6) and Seagulls (4) combined for 10 total shots in a scoreless first half before UMW's offensive outburst in which it attempted 14 shots in the second half.

Mary Washington finally got on the board in the 54th minute thanks to Carter Berg's pass to Schmugge that found the back of the net. Four minutes later, Jordy Santana and Gabe Francesconi teamed up to assist Sammy Amorose's goal, which extended the Eagles' second half lead to two.

UMW kept its foot on the gas when Josh Kirkland scored his team-leading 11th goal on an empty-netter that Berg assisted on. And the Eagles then capped off their early second half scoring barrage when Kirkland and Berg fed Francesconi his second goal of the evening that put them up 4-0.

And finally, as time expired Keeton netted the Eagles' final goal of the evening on a set piece from Jack Sturman that gave the Eagles their first victory in which they've scored five goals since they did it against York on Oct. 4.

Keeper Freddy Rogers recorded three total saves on the day -- running his record to 12-1-2 before he was subbed out for Tristan Kickbush in the final 13 minutes.

On the day, Mary Washington recorded 20 total shots, holding Salisbury to just seven. The Eagles recorded eight corner kicks; the Seagulls had just one.
