Thanks for Sammy Amorose's brace and Josh Kirkland's late goal to break the tie, No. 2 Mary Washington men's soccer took down Salisbury on Saturday afternoon in Salisbury, Md., 3-2.
Amorose got on the board early with an unassisted goal in the 14th minute and then again to push the score to 2-0 in th 61st minute.
After two goals scored within 10 minutes, Salisbury had tied the match at two apiece by the 72nd minute. And it appeared to be headed towards a draw before Kirkland netted the game-winner in the 84th minute to give Mary Washington a 3-2 lead.
The Eagles, after recording a season-high 30 shots in Wednesday's victory, recorded 19 against Salisbury on Saturday -- eight in the first half, the other 11 came in the next half.
The defense held strong in the first half, holding Salisbury to just two shots before it broke through with six more in the second.
Freddy Rogers ran his record up to 7-1 with his effort in goal, recording four saves.
The Eagles recorded five corner kicks, holding Salisbury to none.
Mary Washington is back in action on Wednesday night with a matchup with York in Fredericksburg. First touch is set for 6 p.m. under the lights on the turf field.
