The fourth ranked University of Mary Washington men's soccer team used an efficient, balanced attack in defeaing Lycoming College, 6-0, on Sunday at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. The Eagles, who saw six different players net goals, improve to 4-0 on the season.
Junior Jordy Santana opened the scoring for the Eagles at 11:42 on a Julian Schmugge assist, and junior Carter Berg doubled the advantage at 29:04, unassisted. The Eagles held the 2-0 lead to halftime.
Early in the second, the Eagles ripped a pair of goals in the opening five minutes. Sophomore Sammy Amorose upped the advantage to 3-0 on a Gabe Francesconi assist at 48:15, and senior Nelsar Castillo added another 37 seconds later on a Berg assist.
Francesconi added another at 61:00, and Marcos Gallegos followed with goal number six at 80:20 on a Joseph Cruz assist.
The Eagles led in shots, 24-4, as well as in corner kicks, 10-4. Junior goalkeeper Freddy Rogers made two saves in 64 minutes for UMW, while sophomore Tristan Kickbush stopped one in 26 minutes.
Mary Washington will be back in action again on Friday, when they face Hampden-Sydney College at Richmond City Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
