Repeating on its late season run last year, the Mary Washington men's soccer team (1-0) beat up on RPI, 4-0, on Friday evening during its season opener.
Four different Eagles scored against the Engineers. Aidan Shell got it going quickly with a goal that was assisted by Nelsar Castillo and Jordy Santana in the eighth minute.
For the rest of the half, UMW shot the ball 11 total times compared to RPI's pair of attempts. The Eagles, though, would find the back of the net on three of their 11 shots in the second half.
The first came off of the foot of Blake Hoskins in the 67th minute before Cater Berg added UMW's third goal of the night on an assist from Josh Kirkland. In the 71st minute, Gabe Francesconi was awarded a free kick and capitalized with the final goal of the day that flew just by the arms of keep Colin Such.
Eagles' keeper Freddy Rogers recorded his first shutout of the season, playing 78 minutes and recording three saves before Tristan Kickbush finished off UMW's clean sheet.
Mary Washington is back in action on Sunday against No. 7 Johns Hopkins (0-0-1) at 2 p.m.
