Senior men's soccer All-America selection Josh Kirkland (Richmond, Va.) and senior men's basketball All-America Greg Rowson (Fairfax, Va.) have been named co-winners of the 2022-23 University of Mary Washington Male Athlete of the Year.

A first team All-American by D3Soccer.com and a third team All-America selection by the United Soccer Coaches, Kirkland led Mary Washington to the NCAA Division III Final Four, scoring 18 goals and adding three assists in 22 games played. He posted four game-winning goals. He gained consensus All-America honors, repeated as Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and collected first team all-region and first team all-conference accolades. He was named the United Soccer Coaches National Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 5, as well as conference player of the week twice. He was named the UMW Male Athlete of the Month in both September and October. UMW finished the season ranked fourth in the final USC national poll.

Rowson became just the second All-America selection in men's basketball history, claiming consensus honors from the National American Basketball Coaches Association (2nd team) and D3Hoops.com (5th team). The 2023 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Greg led the Eagles with 16.9 PPG and 6.3 rebounds per contest. He shot 45.3% from the field, including 34.0% from three-point range.

Rowson, a first team all-conference and all-state selection, capped his outstanding career with 1,284 points, good for 10th place in school history, despite playing just 78 games.

The UMW Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards have been presented each year since 2012-13.
