UMW Men's Soccer Cruises Over St. Mary's College in 3-0 Victory, Kirkland and Santana with Goals

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team was electric, winning 3-0, against St. Mary's College of MD on a windy Wednesday afternoon on their home turf. The Eagles improve to 8-3-2 on the season. UMW's star forward Josh Kirkland put the Eagles ahead with a pair of goals at 21:09 and 23:20, respectively. Kirklands' first goal came off the feed from Abel Luwis, while the other was unassisted. The rest of the first half was scoreless, but that did not last long. At 71:06, Jordy Santana found the back of the net off the foot of Diego Guzman - powering the Eagles to victory.

The Eagles led in shots, 15-3, as well as corner kicks, 7-4. UMW senior goalkeeper Griffin Hemmendinger made two saves on the day for the Eagles in the games' entirety - notching is eigth win of the season. St. Mary's goalkeeper Matthew Kopsidas had seven saves - giving his all through the whole game. One yellow card was notched by Seahawks defenseman Evan Marx at 43:00.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday afternoon, as the Eagles host the Christopher Newport University Captains at 2:30 p.m for a C2C, Homecoming day matchup.
