UMW Men's Soccer Tops #22 Gettysburg, 2-1, on Tuesday Night

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team defeated 22nd ranked Gettysburg College on the road on Tuesday night in Gettysburg, Pa. The Eagles improve to 6-2-3 on the season.

Gettysburg jumped ahead with a score midway through the first half, but UMW evened the score just 6:14 later, as sophomore Jordy Santana lofted a long pass forward for senior Josh Kirkland, who juked two defenders and fit the ball niftily between the sprawling goalie and the near post.

The score stood tied until 57:53, when sophomore Carter Berg connected to remain hot on the score sheet, hitting an unassisted tally, for the eventual winning score.

Gettysburg led in shots, 9-8, as well as corner kicks, 5-2. UMW senior goalkeeper Griffin Hemmendinger made three saves on the night for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday, as the Eagles host Salisbury University at 1:00 p.m. in Coast-to-Coast Conference action.
