UMW Men's Soccer Falls, 2-1, at #22 CNU on Saturday Night

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at 22nd ranked Christopher Newport University on Saturday evening in Newport News, Va. The Eagles slip to 4-3-1 on the season.

Christopher Newport opened the scoring in the 11th minute, but the Eagles found the equalizer at 15:14, on a score from Evan Fidler, on an Abel Luwis assist. The score stayed tied to halftime, despite the Eagles playing a man down after a red card in the 28th minute.

The Captains found the winning tally on a UMW own goal in the 51st minute. Each team took eight shots in the game, with CNU holding a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Griffin Hemmendinger made two saves on the night for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will return to action on Tuesday when they visit Stevenson University at 4:00 p.m.
