UMW Men's Soccer Falls on PK, 1-0, to Johns Hopkins

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Johns Hopkins University on Tuesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 2-1 on the season.

Both defenses won out in the first half, as each team could find just four shots on goal, and the score, unsurprisingly, stood at 0-0 at after 45 minutes. In the second half, Hopkins gained a penalty kick after a takedown in the penalty box, and connected on the penalty kick at 60:03 for the game's lone goal.

Mary Washington raised the pressure offensively, and outshot the Blue Jays, 12-5, in the second half, but couldn't find the tying score.

The Eagles led in shots, 16-9, while Hopkins held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. UMW goalkeeper Griffin Hemmendinger made five stops between the pipes.

The Eagles will travel to Johns Hopkins this weekend, playing Emory University on Saturday at 2:30 pm, and then face Cortland State on Sunday at 2:30.
