The 15th ranked University of Mary Washington men's soccer team used a three-goal output in the second half after trailing at intermission to defeat third-seeded St. Mary's College, 3-1, in Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinal action on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 13-3-3 on the season, and will advance to the CAC Championship for the fourth straight season on Saturday.

The Seahawks held the Eagles at bay for most of the first half, while netting a score at 40:22 on a cleanup of a loose ball off a save of a direct free kick. St. Mary's held a 10-2 advantage in shots in the opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, the Eagles began to apply pressure early on that resulted in several corner kicks as well as some chances on net. Exactly nine minutes into the second, the Eagles gained a penalty kick after a foul in the box on a corner kick, and senior Gabriel Soriano converted to knot the score.

At 60:10, freshman Josh Kirkland took a pass from Noah Mazzatenta and streaked to the end line, turned back, and connected to put the Eagles ahead. At 63:40, the Seahawks were whistled for another foul in the box, and Soriano added another penalty kick for the final margin.

In all, the Seahawks led in shots, 16-13, while the Eagles gained all eight of its corners in the second half to lead, 8-3, in that category. UMW junior goalie Kenny Kurtz made 10 saves, while St, Mary's saw two from Kyle Berkowitz and four from Christian Reyes.

The Eagles will advance to the CAC Championship on Saturday at Christopher Newport University at 6 p.m.
