Richard's OT Score Leads UMW Men's Soccer Past #16 CNU at Homecoming

Sophomore midfielder Pierre Richard scored the game's lone goal 1:25 into overtime to lead the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over #16 Christopher Newport University on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 10-3-2 overall, and 5-2 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Offensive chances were at a premium for both sides throughout the day, as regulation saw each team with four shots in the first half and three in the second. UMW's eighth shot would come after a cross from junior Joshua Everard to Richard, who ended the contest at 91:25, to the delight of the thousands of Homecoming fans in attendance.

The Eagles led in shots, 8-7, while the Captains led in corner kicks, 5-1. UMW goalkeeper Ken Kurtz made three saves, while CNU's Justin Piercy had four.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday, as the Eagles host Salisbury University in another key CAC contest starting at 3:30 p.m.
