#14 UMW Men's Soccer Tops Widener, 1-0, in Saturday Showdown

The 14th ranked University of Mary Washingotn men's soccer team used a penalty kick from senior Jacob Lovinger midway through the first half in defeating Widener University, 1-0, on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 5-1-2 on the season.

In another defensive battle for the Eagles, the lone score came at 23:12. Lovinger's shot was slowed by the keeper's glove but the ball dribbled over the end line to account for the only goal of the match.

The Eagles led in shots, 13-4, as well as corner kicks, 11-0. Eagle 'keeper Kenny Kurtz recorded the shutout with a pair of saves, while Widener's John Warwick had six stops, and got help from his defenders on another.

Mary Washington will return to action next Saturday when they host St. Mary's College of Md. in a rematch of last year's CAC Championship. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
