Travis' PK Leads UMW Men's Soccer Past St. Mary's and Into CAC Championship

Senior Colin Travis scored the game's only goal on a penalty kick at 33:57, leading the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at St. Mary's College of Md. on Wednesday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinal action. The Eagles improve to 14-4-1 on the season, and advance to the CAC Championship for the second straight year.

In a back and forth contest in which both teams had their chances, neither side would score a field goal. St. Mary's whstled for a foul in the penalty area at 33:57, and Travis connected on the penalty kick, his second goal of the season.

In all, there were 27 shots in the game (with St. Mary's holding a 16-11 advantage), and UMW held a 9-5 advantage on corner kicks. UMW goalkeeper Matt Spencer had three saves in gaining the shutout, while St. Mary's' Zack Haussler made six stops.

The Eagles will advance to the CAC Championship on Saturday. The Eagles will visit Christopher Newport University for the second straight season for the championship. The game time has yet to be announced.
