UMW Men's Soccer Cruises Past Southern Virginia, 7-0, on Wednesday Night

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team put on a scoring display against Southern Virginia University to win the game, 7-0, in Buena Vista, VA. The Eagles improve to 10-2-1, and 5-0 in the conference. 

The flood gates opened in the first half with Ryan Van Maanen scoring for the Eagles 15:12 into the game on an assist from Jeremy Hokenson. Seven minutes later, Keanu Korkor added a score to put the Eagles up 2-0. Before the half ended, Jack Saslowsky connected on a goal from Gary Foley to put the Eagles ahead 3-0 at the half. The Eagles outshot the Knights 19-1 in the first half.

Jeremy Hokenson kept the scoring party going on a header off of a cross from Idrissa Barrie for his team-leading fifth goal of the year, at the 53:16 mark. Less than two minutes later, the Eagles got some help from the Knights on an own goal. Freshman Nik Jackson netted his first career goal off of a penalty kick at 79:51 to make it 6-0. Ryan Muniz was also able to notch his first career goal with 5:24 left on the clock to cap the scoring for the night.

The Eagles finished with a 31-1 advantage in total shots, including a 13-2 edge in corner kicks. Senior Matt Spencer recorded one save for UMW.

UMW will look to win their seventh straight match when they travel to Wesley College on Saturday for a 4:45 p.m. start.
