#20 UMW Men's Soccer Blanks Marymount, 6-0, in CAC Opener

The 20th ranked University of Mary Washington men's soccer team used a first half hat trick from sophomore Daniel Kalke to defeat Marymount University, 6-0, on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 4-2-1 overall.

The Eagles jumped ahead quickly, as senior Colin Travis scored on a header from a Gabriel Soriano free kick at 2:57. Freshman Jeremy Hokenson added an insurance tally at 23:17 on another Soriano assist, and then Kalke took over. After subbing in with 14 minutes remaining in the half, Kalke scored at 33:23on a Jacob Lovinger assist, and again two minutes later on a Ryan Van Maanen pass. After a hand ball in the box at 41:09, Kalke connected on the penalty kick, giving the Eagles a 5-0 lead at halftime.

In the second, Hokenson scored his second of the day at 51:06 on an assist from Lucas Turney with a header over the keeper's reach.

Mary Washington led in shots, 20-2, and in corner kicks, 5-0. UMW goalkeeper Curran Smolinsky gained the win with 53 minutes of scoreless play in net, with one save. He shared the shutout with Tom Skeer and Kenny Kurtz.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit Virginia Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m.
