UMW Men's Soccer Falls to #11 Messiah, 3-1, on Saturday in Classic Finale

Eleventh ranked Messiah College scored a goal in each half to defeat the University of Mary Washington, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at the rainy Battleground. The Eagles slip to 1-1 on the season.

Messiah started the scoring on a penalty kick after an unintentional hand ball in the box on a free kick at 13:39. Kirby Robbins connected on the PK for the Falcons. The game remained 1-0 to halftime, with the shots column tied at 4-4.

In the second, Messiah scored at 48:06, as Justin Brautigam connected on a cross from Colby Thomas. The Eagles found the scoreboard at the 76:37 mark, as sophomore Daniel Kalke connected on an assist from freshman Jeremy Hokenson. Messiah's Colby Thomas added an insurance score at 79:32.

The Falcons led in shots, 14-7, and corner kicks, 7-4. UMW goalkeeper Matt Spencer had three saves, while Messiah's Connor Bell had five stops.

UMW will return to action on Wednesday when the Eagles visit Catholic University at 4:00 p.m.
