Saslowsky's OT Score Leads UMW Men's Soccer Past York, 2-1, in CAC Semifinal

Sophomore Jack Saslowsky scored the game-winning goal in overtime off a Mitchell Williams corner kick to lead the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory over York College (Pa.) on Tuesday afternoon in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinal round at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 14-3 and will advance to the CAC Championship match.

The Eagles had several quality chances early, and jumped ahead on a Ryan Van Maanen score at 12:34 on a Riley Fisher assist. The Spartans answered quickly, as Jordan Evans scored on a Matt Feibaum assist at 14:56. From there, both offenses were held in check, and the game remained tied through halftime and regulation.

Then, 2:12 into overtime, the Eagles drew a corner kick and the resulting shot was saved out of bounds, setting up Williams' corner kick. The ball sailed through the box and past the Spartan goalkeeper, who got a piece but not all of the ball. Saslowsky followed by running through the ball into goal for the win.

Mary Washington led in shots, 17-5, as well as in corner kicks, 12-1. UMW junior goalkeeper Matt Spencer had three saves, while York's Charlie Johnson had six.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday in the CAC Championship, in search of their league-leading ninth CAC men's soccer crown. UMW, York, and Salisbury have each won the title eight times.

UMW will visit top seeded Christopher Newport University for the title match on Saturday. Game time is TBA.
