UMW's Bennett, Spencer Named to VaSID All-State College Division Team

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Washington and Lee midfielder Ben Bayles was named Player of the Year and Generals' Mike Singleton took Coach of the Year honors on the 2015 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division All-State Men's Soccer team released Friday.

Virginia Wesleyan forward Ricky Perrault was named the state's Rookie of the Year.

A total of 12 different programs were represented on this year's team. Christopher Newport University led the selection with five all-state players, including four first-team picks.

Bayles, an ODAC first-team selection and the conference player of the year, led the Generals in points this past season with 23 and goals scored with 11. His 11 goals also led the ODAC. Bayles, a three-year letterwinner and a two-time team captain, scored four game-winning goals for W&L this season and was a perfect 5-for-5 on penalty kicks.

Singleton earned ODAC Coach of the Year honors after leading the Washington and Lee men's soccer team to the program's fourth ODAC title and a berth into the NCAA Tournament. W&L defeated Methodist, 3-0, in the first round of NCAA action, but fell to Haverford, 2-1, in the second round. Washington and Lee finished the season with a 16-4-2 overall record and seven Generals earned all-conference recognition.

Virginia Wesleyan's Perrault, a second-team All-ODAC pick and the conference's Rookie of the Year, led the Marlins in goals scored with seven. He recorded the Marlins' lone hat trick of the season and his first multi-goal game with three goals against Shenandoah. His seven goals tied for fourth in the ODAC in that category.

Due to ties in the voting, the first team features 13 players, including six defenders.

The forward spots went to CNU's Patrick Burns, Randolph's Troy Jurney and Lynchburg College's Freddy Flores. The defenders included CNU's Sean Christein, W&L's Patrick Barry, Randolph's Cristian Irigoyen, Roanoke College's Dio Beck, Lynchburg's Nate Berning and Marymount University's Rodney Ngoh.
