UMW Men's Soccer Drops CAC Opener at Wesley, 2-1, on Saturday Evening

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team dropped its Capital Athletic Conference opener, 2-1, on Saturday at Wesley College in Dover, Del. The Eagles fall to 7-3 on the season.

Wesley quickly jumped ahead, scoring 54 seconds into the match on a goal by R.J. Dina, on a Will Mileski assist. Despite a shot advantage in both halves, the Eagles were unable to tie the score, until Wesley scored an own goal in the 67th minute.

UMW's momentum didn't last, as Wesley scored again eight minutes later, as Adrian Coverdale scored on a Zack Baker pass. The Wolverines would keep the Eagles off the scoreboard the rest of the way for the upset win.

The Eagles led in shots, 19-13, and in corner kicks, 10-4. UMW goalkeeper Matt Spencer had a pair of saves, while Baker had six saves in addition to his assist in goal for Wesley.

Mary Washington will be back in action next Saturday when they host Marymount University at 3:30 p.m. Following the game, there will be a postgame concert from the UMW Philharmonic Orchestra.
