Burke's Two Goals Lead UMW Men's Soccer Past St. Mary's in Wednesday CAC Action, 3-1

Sophomore Jacob Burke scored a pair of first half goals to lead the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over St. Mary's College on Wednesday at a wet Battleground. The Eagles improve to 5-2 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Burke opened the scoring at 34:35 with an unassisted tally, and teammate Carlos Mendoza scored again just 40 seconds later to build the Eagle lead to 2-0. Burke scored again at 42:24 on a Lino Gallo assist, and the Eagles led, 3-0, at halftime.

In the second, the lone goal came from St. Mary's at 62:36, and the Eagles held on for the 3-1 victory. UMW is now 8-6-2 overall, and are the winners of four straight.

The Eagles led in shots, 20-4, and in corner kicks, 3-1. Tyler Back had one stop in goal for UMW, while Zack Hausller had eight saves for St. Mary's.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they host Penn State Harrisburg at Homecoming at 3:30 p.m.
