UMW Men's Soccer Falls to #14 CNU in Regular Season Finale

The University of Mary Wshington men's soccer team jumped out to an early lead less than two minutes into play, but fell to 14th ranked Christopher Newport University, 4-1, on Thursday at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 10-7-1 on the season.

Just 1:21 into the game, freshman Rory Grambo scored off a Matt Alter cross, giving theEagles a 1-0 lead. The Captains tied the score at one at 26:35 on an own goal by the Eagles. The game remained tied until halftime.

In the second half, CNU's Jalon Brown took over, scoring twice and adding an assist to boost the Captains' lead to 4-1. The Captains held a 16-13 shot advantage, as well as an 8-7 edge in corner kicks.

Tyler Back had seven saves for Mary Washington, while Sean Killion had five for the Captains.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Sunday when they visit Marymount University in the first round of the CAC Tournament at 2:00 p.m.
