UMW Men's Soccer Comes Back; Tops Hampden-Sydney, 2-1
The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to top Hampden-Sydney College, 2-1, on Saturday in Lynchburg, Va. Freshmen Jake Doyle (Stafford, Va., Mountain View) and Nick Shepherd (Palmyra, Va., Fluvanna County) scored second half goals for the Eagles, who improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Tigers took the lead in the 20th minute on a goal by Bryan Wharton, coming on an assist from Brian Talbert, and led, 1-0, at halftime.

The Eagles responded as Doyle scored in the 75th minute unassisted. Shepherd provided the heroics at 87:10, scoring unassisted to give UMW the win.

Mary Washington held a 17-15 edge in shots, and had eight corner kicks to three for HSC. UMW goalkeeper Blake Weiss (Midland, Va., Liberty) had four saves, while Hampden Sydney had two keepers split three saves.

The Eagles will face host Lynchburg College on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
