Sangbouasy's OT Goal Lifts UMW Men's Soccer to Homecoming Win Over Wesley

Sophomore midfielder Tommy Sangbouasy (Manassas, Va., Osbourn) netted the game winning goal with 6:13 left in the first overtime to lift the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Wesley College for Homecoming on Saturday at the Battleground. With the win, the Eagles improve to 7-5-3 overall, and 5-1-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play, and clinch at least second place in the regular season standings.

Late in the game, the Eagles appeared to be headed toward defeat, trailing 1-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining. But senior forward Corey Sims (Boston, Va., Culpeper) headed in a Kevin Shavalay (Oakton, Va., Oakton) cross with 7:07 remaining to tie the score and send the game to extra time.

Sangbouasy scored the game winner from deep outside the penalty area with 6:13 left unassisted. The Eagles led in shots, 13-8, and held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Freshman goalie Tyler Back (Falls Church, Va., George Mason) made three saves for UMW.

Mary Washington will close the regular season on Wednesday when they visit Christopher Newport University at 7:00 p.m.
