UMW Men's Soccer Tops Marymount, 2-1, to Remain Unbeaten in CAC Play

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team scored a goal in each half to defeat visiting Marymount University, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 5-4-1 overall and 3-0-1 in league play.

The Eagles opened the scoring at 12:51 as Matt Willett (Culpeper, Va., Eastern View) redirected a free kick from Bram Sims (Boston, Va., Culpeper) on a one-touch at the top of the box. UMW held the lead until just before halftime, as the Saints scored at 42:00 on a score from Henri Mejia assisted by Kjell Crooke.

Mary Washington gained the eventual game winner at 52:06, as senior Robby Davis (Locust Grove, Va., James Monroe) scored on a pass from sophomore Tommy Sangbouasy (Manassas, Va., Osbourn). In all, the Eagles led in shots, 9-6, and also in corner kicks, 3-1. Freshman Tyler Back had two saves for the Eagles, while Marymount's Mike Madigan had two stops.

The Eagles will return to action on October 11 when they visit St. Mary's College at 4:00 p.m. in another key CAC contest.
