Senior forward T.L. Tutor (Islesboro, Me., Gould Academy) added to his already-impressive season with the game's only goal as the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team defeated St. Mary's College in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 10-5-2 overall, and will visit York College on Wednesday in the CAC semifinals.
After a scoreless first half, Tutor connected for his 13th goal of the season at 58:20, and UMW held on the rest of the way for the 1-0 shutout. The Eagles led in shots, 13-8, and the Seahawks had the only corner kick of the game.
Freshman Blake Weiss (Midland, Va., Liberty) had three saves in recording his second straight shutout for UMW, while Alex Spranklin had six stops for St. Mary's. UMW will visit York College, who defeated the Eagles 2-0 during the regular season, on Wednesday in the conference tournament semis.
