Tutor's Goal Leads UMW Men's Soccer Past Marymount, 1-0

Senior T.L. Tutor (Islesboro, Me., Gould Academy) scored his eleventh goal of the season in the 10th minute to least the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Marymount University on Wednesday at the Battleground Complex. The Eagles stepped up the pressure early, gaining several quality chances, including Tutor's score on an assist from junior Robby Davis (Locust Grove, Va., James Monroe). Davis held possession through several defensive challenges before sliding the ball forward to Tutor, who picked up his 11th score at 9:34.

In a game that included a 20-minute tornado warning delay, Marymount held a 10-9 edge in shots, while UMW had a 9-6 edge in corner kicks. UMW freshman Blake Weiss (Midland, Va., Liberty) had four saves in gaining his first career shutout. William Brahmstadt had three saves for the Saints.

Mary Washington (9-5-2 overall) will be either the third or fourth seed in the CAC Tournament, and will host a first round game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
