UMW Men's Soccer Tops Hood, 3-2, at Homecoming

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team scored a pair of second half goals to defeat Hood College, 3-2, on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action at Homecoming at the Battleground. UMW improves to 8-5-2 overall, and 3-3-1 in CAC play.

The Eagles netted the only goal of the first half, as senior Ryan Taibl (Centreville, Va., Westfield) netted a goal on a Tommy Sangbouasy (Manassas, Va., Osbourn) pass at 15:28. Although the Eagles held a 7-0 advantage in shots, the score stood at 1-0 at intermission.

Hood opened the second half with the tying score on a direct free kick at 46:41. The Eagles scored the next two goals, as sophomore Duke Mensah-Abrampah (Gainesville, Va., Battlefield) scored on a header of a Matt Poole (Neshanic Station, N.J., Somerville) throw in with 10 minutes remaining. Senior T.L. Tutor (Islesboro, Me., Gould Academy) scored what proved to be the game winner at 82:37.

Hood scored a late goal to cut the final deficit to 3-2. The Eagles outshot Hood, 17-8, and had eight corner kicks to two for the Blazers. Freshman Blake Weiss (Midland, Va., Liberty) had one save for the Eagles, while William Lane had three saves for Hood.

Mary Washington will host Marymount University on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
