UMW's Tutor, Willett, Bowdren named CAC Athletes of the Week

UMW's Tutor, Willett, Bowdren named CAC Athletes of the Week
YORK, Pa. -- The Capital Athletic Conference announced its Sept. 20, 2010, weekly award winners:

FIELD HOCKEY
St. Mary’s sophomore forward LAURIANN PARKER (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) was selected as the CAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week while Mary Washington senior goalkeeper CHRISSY BOWDREN (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) was selected as the CAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 20, 2010.
Parker wins the conference’s offensive award for the third-straight week after scoring five goals in three games. The key performance was the game-tying score, as well as the game-winner in overtime, of a CAC road win at Stevenson. She scored two more times in a weekend non-conference win at Roanoke and the team’s lone tally at Bridgewater (Va.) to move into fifth place on SMC’s career goals list and sixth place on the career points chart.
Bowdren recorded a pair of CAC shutouts last week, giving her three in UMW’s last four games. The key outing was a 2-0 victory at Wesley Saturday when the host Wolverines outshot the Eagles, 9-8, but Bowdren registered five key stops.

MEN’S SOCCER
Mary Washington senior forward T.L. TUTOR (Islesboro, Maine/Gould Academy) was selected as the CAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while teammate sophomore defender MATT WILLETT (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) was selected as the CAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 20, 2010.
Tutor opened the week by scoring both goals in a 2-1 non-conference victory over Catholic, then added the insurance goal in UMW’s weekend CAC win at Wesley. Tutor’s seven scores in the Eagles’ first seven matches of 2010 equales his season total for goals in each of the past two seasons.
Willett sparked the UMW defense that surrendered just one goal in two matches, including a whitewash at CAC rival Wesley that pushed the Eagles into a tie for first place in the conference standings.
