UMW Men's Soccer Blanks Wesley, 2-0


The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team overcame a 9-3 shots disadvantage in the first half to net two second half goals in defeating Wesley College, 2-0, on Sunday in Dover, Del. The Eagles improve to 5-0-1 on the season, and 1-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

After a scoreless first half, UMW's Robby Davis (Locust Grove, Va., James Monroe) scored the game's first goal at 57:05 by deflecting a shot off a Wesley defender for a goal. The Eagles upped the advantage to 2-0 when senior forward T.L. Tutor (Islesboro, Me., Gould Academy) scored his career-high tying seventh goal of the season unassisted at 79:53.

In total, the Eagles were edged in shots, 11-9, and both teams had two corner kicks. UMW sophomore goalie Alec Constantine (McLean, Va., Langley) had six saves in gaining the shutout for the Eagles. Wesley's Nick Talarico had four saves.

Mary Washington will host St. Mary's College in CAC play on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
