FIELD HOCKEY
Mary Washington junior forward MORGAN JONES (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) was selected as the CAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week while Salisbury junior goalie ANNA COOKE (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) was selected as the CAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 1, 2010.
Jones is honored for the second time this year after scoring three goals and added an assist in two outings this week, helping the Eagles advance to the CAC tournament semifinals. After scoring twice, including the game-winning goal, against Randolph-Macon, she added a goal and an assist in Sunday’s CAC playoff win over Stevenson. Jones leads UMW with 14 goals and nine assists (37 pts.) in 2010.
Cooke was picked for the CAC defensive award for the second-straight week after blanking two more opponents, including fourth-place Wesley, giving her six shutouts and the team nine for the season, and clinching the regular-season title and top seed in the 2010 CAC playoffs. Her best performance was in a victory against Catholic, where she matched her season-high with six saves in a 3-0 win.
MEN’S SOCCER
Mary Washington senior forward T.L. TUTOR (Isleboro, Maine/Gould Academy) was selected as the CAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while Mary Washington freshman goalkeeper BLAKE WEISS (Midland, Va./Liberty) was picked as the CAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 1, 2010.
Tutor scored the only goal of the match against a pair of CAC foes last week as the Eagles earned the No. 4 seed in the CAC playoffs. Both goals were in the second half as the Eagles downed Marymount in the final contest of the regular season, then defeated visiting St. Mary’s in Sunday’s first-round playoff action, raising his season total to 12 goals.
Weiss registered seven saves on the way to a pair of 1-0 shutout victories, including Sunday’s CAC playoff showdown against visiting St. Mary’s. They were Weiss’ first two career shutouts and lifted fourth-seeded UMW into the CAC semifinals.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
St. Mary’s sophomore forward TORI ESKAY (Damascus, Md./Urbana) was named the CAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while Hood senior keeper RACHELLE BUHRMAN (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) was selected as the CAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 1, 2010.
Eskay picked up the CAC offensive award for the second time this season after scoring twice, including the game-winner, in Saturday’s CAC first-round playoff showdown against defending CAC champion Mary Washington. Eskay leads the Seahawks with 13 goals this season.
Buhrman was peppered in the Blazers’ goal by the Mary Washington offense with 24 shots, and she was credited with 10 stops in her second double-figure save effort of the season. Buhrman’s performance helped Hood defeat Mary Washington for the first time in Blazers’ team history.
VOLLEYBALL
Salisbury sophomore setter/RS CARLEY TODD (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields was named CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Nov. 1, 2010, after leading the Sea Gulls to four wins in five matches, including an important 3-2 decision over visiting York that clinched the No. 3 seed and a home match in the 2010 CAC playoffs. Todd contributed 39 kills, 100 assists, eight service aces, 48 digs and 19 block assists as Salisbury improved to 22-11. Against the Spartans, she dished out 24 assists, had 15 digs, one ace and six block assists.
