UMW Men's Soccer Falls at York in CAC Semifinals, 4-1


The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision at fifth-ranked York College in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinals on Tuesday in York, Pa. The Eagles fall to 12-7-1 overall on the season.

York opened the scoring at 9:14 on a goal by Jon Ports, and upped the lead to 2-0 on a score from Antonio Bua at 15:46. York held a 2-0 advantage at halftime.

The Eagles cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 52nd minute as senior Matt Lawrey (Washington, Va., Rappahannock County) connected on a penalty kick. York regained a two-goal cuhion on a goal by Mike Gill at 74:06, and Kemal Nuspahic capped the scoring at 84:33.

The Spartans outshot the Eagles, 21-4, and had five corner kicks to one for UMW. UMW senior Emmett Rutkowski (Culpeper, Va., Culpeper) had four saves in 61 minutes and Alec Constantine (McLean, Va., Langley) had one save in 29 minutes for the Eagles. Ryan Hock didn't register a save in goal for York.

The Eagles close the season with a 12-7-1 overall record. UMW reached 12 victories this season for the 21st time in program history, and for the second time in the past four years.
