UMW Men's Soccer Tops Lynchburg, 3-1

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team used goal from three different players in defeating host Lynchburg College, 3-1, on Saturday at the Lynchburg Soccer Classic. The Eagles, winners of three straight, improive to 3-2 on the season.

Eagle junior Corey Sims opened the scoring at 25:21 unassisted, and the Eagles upped the lead to 2-0 just before halftime, as freshman Duke Mensah-Abrampah scored at 40:42 on a pass from Matt Lawrey.

Lynchburg opened the second half by cutting the deficit to 2-1 just over one minute into the second half on a goal by Donald Hart. Eagle sophomore Will Gallop provided the final goal on an assist from Bram Sims at 64:45.

Lynchburg led in shots, 23-20, while UMW had six corner kicks to four for the hosts. UMW senior Emmett Rutkowski had seven saves for the Eagles, while Matt Sturdivant had four stops for the Hornets.

Mary Washington will take on Randolph College on Sunday in game three of the Classic at noon.
