UMW Men's Lacrosse Tops Greensboro, 15-7, on Saturday in N.C.

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team roared back from behind to defeat Greensboro College, 15-7, on Saturday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C. The Eagles improve to 4-3 on the season.

Both offenses started slowly, with each team scoring once in the first quarter. UMW tallied the first goal of the game, as Jackson Davis scored unassisted with 11:50 remaining, but Greensboro tied the score just before the final horn in the first.

The Pride raced ahead in the second quarter, as they outscored UMW, 4-2. After Cameron Walker scored with 13:28 left on a Kristophe Newman assist, Greensboro scored three straight in taking a 4-2 lead. Kevin Cruz drew the Eagles back to within one with 6:20 left on a J.D. Nozemack assist. Greensboro capped the second quarter scoring to take a 5-3 advantage to halftime.

In the third and fourth quarter, the Eagle offense hit overdrive, and the defense stiffened, as the Eagles outscored the hosts, 12-2, in the final 30 minutes. After Greensboro upped their lead to 6-3, the Eagles reeled off seven straight, with goals coming from Ethan Castleman, Sterling Colgan, Davis, Garrett Keogh, and Nozemack. The fourth saw UMW erupt for seven scores, with Nozemack and Newman each scoring twice in the run.

UMW led in shots, 47-25, as well as ground balls, 28-23. UMW goalkeeper Riley Green made 10 saves, and John Staugaitis had six ground balls to pace the Eagles.

UMW will return to action next Saturday when they visit Goucher College at 1:00 p.m.
