UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls at Catholic, 20-10, on Wednesday Night

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 20-10 decision at Catholic University on Wednesday night in Washington, D.C. The Eagles slip to 0-2 on the season.

The Cardinals started swiftly, scoring the first five goals of the game. Senior attacker J.D. Nozemack got the Eagles on the board on a Cameron Walker assist with 4:49 remaining, and, after another Catholic score, Jackson Davis and Nozemack pulled UMW to within 6-3 to finish the frame. Catholic extended the lead in the second quarter with a 4-0 scoring margin to lead, 10-3 at halftime.

The teams traded the first four scores of the third, with Nozemack and Kristophe Newman scoring tallies for the Eagles. The Cardinals reeled off four straight, before Nozemack closed the frame with an unassisted tally with 3:27 left.

In the fourth, the Cardinals scored the first three goals, before UMW answered with four straight. Walker scored on a man up opportunity on a Logan Green assist with 6:02 left, and Garrett Keogh followed at 4:30. Nozemack added his fourth score 21 seconds later, and Catholic added a man up score in the final minute for the final margin.

The Cardinals led in shots, 57-40, and in ground balls, 46-29. Goalie Riley Green made 18 saves for UMW in 47 minutes, and Wyatt Martin finished with 13 minutes of relief.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they host Shenandoah University at 1:00 p.m.
