UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls to Catholic, 22-11, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team fell to Catholic University, 22-11, on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The Eagles slip to 3-4 overall on the season.   

The Cardinals started the first quarter with a 4-0 lead. The Eagles would net their first of the game on an unassisted tally from Hunter Tipton. CU would respond less than a minute later followed by another two minutes later. With 4:28 left in the first quarter Kevin Cruz would score on a Quintin Ricci assist to take the Eagles into the second quarter down 6-2.

The second quarter started with another Cardinal 4-goal run. The Eagles lone goal in the second quarter would come from Chase Kapuscienski. The Cardinals would add two more before the half.

CU continued with a 4-goal run to start the third quarter. Kristophe Newman would break the run on an unassisted goal. Logan Green then assisted Kapuscienski on his second of the day with 1:39 left in the third. The Cardinals quickly added another to bring the score to 17-5.

Catholic started off the fourth with 2 goals in the first two minutes. The Eagles would then score back-to-back with goals from J.D. Nozemack and Kapuscienski. After another Catholic goal, Nozemack added his second of the day followed quickly by an unassisted goal by Bryant Baus. Jackson Davis then scored his first of the season on a Zach Miller assist. The Cardinals would then add their last two goals of the game. Trevor LeClair scored his first of the season with 1:55 left on an assist by Jackson Popeck.

Jack-Henry Smith caused two turnovers and had three ground balls, while Ricci caused a turnover and ha five ground balls. The Eagles picked up 31 ground balls and were 16-16 on clear attempts.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they will travel to Washington College at 1 pm.
