UMW Men’s Lacrosse Falls at #2 York, 16-4

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team falls at second-ranked York College, 16-4, on Saturday night in York, Pa. UMW slips to 7-5 overall, and 3-1 in the CAC. 

Freshman Will Mortimer got the scoring started as he scored on a man-up opportunity just 1:57 into the game on an assist from Shane McKenzie. York answered that goal and scored three straight to take the lead 3-1 with 5:55 to play in the first quarter. Chris White scored his 28th goal of the year on another assist by McKenzie with just 2:08 left in the quarter. York held a 3-2 lead heading into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, the Spartans scored just 44 seconds in to take a 4-2 lead. Cole Hogan brought the Eagles within one, 4-3, on an assist from Ben Byrne with 10:05 remaining. Over the last 10:05, York scored three goals and took a 7-3 lead into half.

In the third quarter, both defenses held strong as nobody scored in the first 7:34. York broke the streak and then went on to score four more in order to take a 13-3 lead with 2:32 left. White scored his second of the game with 1:09 remaining on an assist from Kaleb Hunter to put UMW down 13-4.

The Spartans were the only team to score in the fourth quarter as they scored three goals. York held on to win the game 16-4.

Junior Robert Tata caused four turnovers and picked up six ground balls on the day. Owen Dingman secured four ground balls. Billy Senicola made 15 saves for the Eagles.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday night as they travel to CNU for a game at 7 p.m.
