UMW Men's Lacrosse Tops Marymount, 11-4, to Close Regular Season; Will Visit Frostburg on Tuesday in CAC Tourney

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team topped Marymount University, 11-4, on Saturday afternoon in their regular season finale in Arlington, Va. The Eagles improve to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in conference play. UMW will be the #5 seed in next week's Capital Athletic Conference tournament.

The Eagles got off to a fast start, dominating the first quarter. Jack Carver and Chris White each scored two goals, while Mike Marson added one en route to an early 5-0 lead for the Eagles. Marymount scored with 2:55 left in the first, cutting the deficit to 5-1.

The Eagles continued to dominate in the second quarter, scoring four more and giving up none to push the lead to 9-1. In the run, Marson, White, Drew Carlson, and Owen Dingman each found the net.

With 12:41 remaining in the third, Carver found Noah Dewey to put the Eagles up 10-1. Marymount then added their second goal of the game with 7:36 left in the third.

Marymount scored two more goals in the fourth quarter before Vince Smiraldo scored with 41 seconds left in the game to cap all scoring at 11-4.

White led the Eagles with three goals, while Carver and Marson added two.

Mary Washington led in shots, 44-30, while Marymount won 12 out of 18 faceoffs. The Eagles and Saints each picked up 33 ground balls, but Marymount committed 18 turnovers to UMW's 12. Sophomore goalie Alexander Friedrich recorded 12 saves for the Eagles.

The fifth seeded Eagles are back in action on Wednesday at fourth seeded Frostburg State for the first round of the CAC Tournament. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
