UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls at CNU, 16-6, on Wednesday Night

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team fell at Christopher Newport University, 16-6, on Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles slip to 3-7 on the season.

The Captains offense came out firing, scoring seven goals in the first quarter, and six more in the second. Junior Miles Davis scored the Eagles first goal with 10:26 left in the first to tie the score at one, and Owen Dingman scored with 3:14 left to cut the Captains' lead to 4-2.

CNU started the third with three straight scores before the Eagles mounted a charge to close the game with four straight. Jack Carver scored with 7:49 left in the third on a Drew Carlson assist, and Matt Cherry capped the third with an unassisted goal just five seconds later.

Carver scored with 10:47 left in the fourth on a Dingman assist, and capped his hat trcik with another score unassisted with 7:16 left to cap all scoring.

Carver's three goals and one assist tied CNU's Ryan Mills for game high honors. The Captains led in shots, 38-22, and ground balls, 34-31. Both teams won 13 faceoffs. Eli Ayer had five ground balls for the Eagles.

Billy Senicola had seven saves and Sam Wasson three for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they host Wesley College at 1:00 p.m. for Senior Day.
