UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls to Guilford on Wednesday, 8-6

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a close game to Guilford College, 8-6, on Wednesday afternoon at Rivercity Sportsplex in Midlothian, Va. The Eagles fall to 3-5 on the season.

In the first quarter, Guilford scored at the 9:24 minute mark to take an early 1-0 lead. The Eagles tied the game at 1-1 a minute later when Shane McKenzie found Mike Marson. Guilford then score four unanswered to take a 5-1 lead with 12:18 left in the half.

The Eagles answered with four goals of their own, three of which came in the final 1:44 of the third period, to tie the score at 5-5. Jack Carver scored two, while Marson and Noah Dewey each added one.

Guilford again answered the Eagles' call, scoring two more goals at the end of the third period to take a 7-5 advantage. With 13:59 left, Owen Dingman found Carver for another score to cut the deficit to one, at 7-6. Guilford put a cap on scoring when they increased the lead to 8-6 with 5:31 left in the game.

Carver led the Eagles with three goals. Marson added two and Dewey had one. Shane McKenzie dished out three assists.

The Eagles led in shots, 33-27, and in ground balls, 40-30. UMW also won 10 out of 18 faceoffs. Sam Wasson recorded 10 saves in goal for the Eagles.
