Eagles Stay Perfect, Down Catholic 17-5

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The Eagles got their fifth win in a row over Catholic, 15-7, on Saturday. The Eagles used a six goal first quarter to seal the victory. UMW is now 5-0 to start the 2014 season.

Chip Pittard got the scoring started with a goal just 47 seconds in, off a pass from John Bohlinger. Jared Krikorian (Billy Kelly), Johnny Esposito, Luke Dick (Krikorian), and Billy Kelly (Bohlinger) each scored in succession to give the Eagles and early 5-0 lead. Pittard struck again late in the quarter for his second of the day, and a 6-0 lead after one.

UMW picked up where they left off, with three straight goals to open the second stanza. Bohlinger got his first two of the day, with Luke Dick also scoring to make the lead 9-0. William Cowan broke through for the first Cardinal tally at 9:15. Then John Bohlinger took control. Bohlinger scored three straight to up the lead to 12-1. Catholic got a goal just before half from Ethan Rodriguez to cut the deficit to 12-2 at the half.

The Eagles outscored Catholic 5-3 over the final two quarters with goals from Pittard, Luke Dick, Mike Marson, and Teddy Blyskal (2) to win 17-5. UMW outshot Catholic 53-24 in the contest, with Zack DelGrosso recording six saves in the win. Tommy Fairbank came on for the fourth quarter and recorded three saves.

UMW returns to action Wednesday, March 12th, when they host Washington & Lee at 3:30 p.m.
