UMW Men's Lacrosse Edges Marymount, 9-8

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team edged Marymount University, 9-8, on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.

The Eagles started the scoring with 10:49 remaining in the first quarter, as frshman Joey Marson (Chantilly, VA, Chantilly) scored on a Sean Dacey (Round Hill, Va., Loudoun Valley) assist. The Saints scored twice to take the lead, but sophomore Kyle Johnson (Olney, Md., Sherwood) evened the score with 5:21 left in the first, and junior Harry Snyder (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's-Belfield) gave UMW the lead at 3-2 with 14:28 left in the second. The Saints tied the score at three by halftime.

UMW erupted for four of the five goals in the third quarter, with Dacey scoring with 7:08 left, and UMW scoring three goals in the final 1:55, from Snyder, Johnson, and Josh Furnary (Vienna, Va., Gonzaga). After Dacey scored with 12:22 left in the fourth, UMW held an 8-4 advantage.

The Saints scored four of the final five goals, but the Eagles were able to hold on at the end for the one-goal win. UMW outshot the guests, 27-25, and had 27 ground balls to 28 for the Saints. Senior Ryan Kleman (Fairfax, VA, Robinson) made 10 saves for the Eagles, who will host Frostburg State University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
